Several students expressed an interest to work with Start With A Story outside of our community projects. This program, imagined by the Alameda County Library, promotes reading to children of prisoners. Please take a look at their blog to learn more about the program and ideology. Education 190 is a course designed to promote rigorous inquiry into the current issues facing the education system. In order to fully engage each member of the class, we replace the traditional Teacher-Student model with a democratically structured system conducive to critical dialogue and equal voices. This open space allows students to play an active role in their learning, engage critically with academic texts and their peers, and apply this knowledge through community outreach projects.
